I've read a lot of memoirs lately where food plays a huge role in the authors' memories. That made me wonder - what is my family's food history? Well, what I have is the Cross Family Cookbook, published by my Aunt Martha in 1995. It's simply a collection of recipes that were gathered into one place and published for a family reunion. Many of these recipes were used by my grandmother and my aunts. Some are old; some are new. I've used it over the last 10+ years to make the No-Bake Cookies on page 117, over and over, so many times I don't even need the recipe. And that's all.
Well, now I'm unemployed because of the 'largest bank failure in US history.'

This is Unemployment, Day 2. What better time for a new hobby/obsession. This cookbook has some funny stuff, and I plan to make it all - Mom's Boiled Custard, Holiday Fruit Balls, Green Tomato Pie.
This is NOT a Julie-Julia thing. THAT was serious cooking. This is simply preparing a sampling of family recipes. But I'll be thrilled if anyone reads this and wants to share their own family 'food' memories as we go along.
