We need a better name for this lovely dessert. I made this recipe from my grandma last night.
Grease a 9x13 pan. Dump in a large can crushed pineapple; spread into corners of pan. Dump in a can of cherry pie filling; spread over pineapple. Dump in a large package of white or yellow cake mix, sprinkling it around to cover fruit evenly. On top of this, scatter 1/2 cup chopped nuts. Over the top, place small pieces of margarine cut from a cube, using the whole cube. There's no mixing, the dumping does it. Bake in 350 oven for an hour.
I used a white cake mix, walnuts (but wish I had used the pecans I picked up at Costco), and butter. It's really that easy. And it is delicious. By this morning, it has a nice crispy top, which made me wonder whether it was a cake at all. You can spend a lot of time on the internet learning the difference between cake, pie, cobbler, and the many other dessert options! (I say it's a 'crisp,' so if I made this for a potluck I'd call it a cherry-pineapple crisp!)
